OVERTAXING
The United States and Europe complain of China.
The United States of America and Europe open together a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) against China, by overtaxing raw materials to ensure that their domestic prices are lower. According to the State Agency, the dispute is about the access by rich countries to raw materials to their industries. Trade Commissioner of the European Union, Catherine Ashton, said that "the Chinese restrictions on raw materials continue to distort competition and raise overall prices, which makes the playing field for our industries more difficult." As for China, the constraints are environmental measures and do not affect prices. Later this year, the president of the United States, Barack Obama, will travel to Beijing to discuss, among other issues, trade issues and the devaluation of Chinese currency. The White House had established a tax increase for Chinese tires. In retaliation, Beijing decided to take action against U.S. exports of chicken, cars and auto parts.
