INCREASE IN EXPORTS

External trade is at its highest level in history.

Welber Barral, the Secretary for Foreign Trade said yesterday in Brasilia that "Brazilian exports reached the amount of U.S$ 23.502 billion in the first quarter of 2010, which represents the highest level in history".


He said: "the major economies show signs of recovery, especially the emerging ones, with percentages in exports of + 17.3% to the United States, + 24.9% to European countries and - to some emerging economies- the increase was greater than 50% ". Barral also cited "the increases of 56.8% in sales to Mercosur countries, 37.2% to Latin America and the Caribbean, 33.2% to Asia, 50.8% to the Middle East and 76.9% to Eastern Europe .


The total indicates that Brazilian exporters sold 24.5% more than the same period last year.
